This saying is true for many things but especially true when it comes to some repair places that say they repair “EVERYTHING” in house.
Anytime an opportunity presents itself, I always encourage customers to tour our facility. I want them to know and believe that we can help get them back up and running quicker than anyone especially in a down situation because we do all of our own repairs in house.
There is just no denying that tours are beneficial to our customers. It allows them to get to know us more on a personal level and get to know that we can help with such a wide range of industrial repairs. By being onsite, they can see our equipment, test stands and even talk to our trained technicians. I have had customers tell me that they’ve never been invited to visit or even walk through a shop when dropping off a repair. This is something our customers can do the very first time they visit. I’ve had them realize we can repair gearboxes when dropping off plc’s, motors when dropping off drives, and it literally blows me away that they would have to contact multiple companies just to get their motor picked up and repaired when we can provide both the pickup and repair service. Some customers have even told stories of having to send their motor to be rebuilt where that repair company then sends parts of the motor to other shops to be balanced and rewound, when we rewind, balance and rebuild all under one roof. Tours aren’t just for our local customers either. I’ve had customers come in from Kentucky, California, New Jersey, etc because they haven’t actually seen one repair facility that’s able to provide such a wide scope of repairs, industrial electronics, servo motors, AC and DC motors, hydraulics and pneumatics. They have used places that will outsource your repair. Such as the electronic shop outsourcing the old Allen Bradley 1336 drives that they can’t get the parts, or the local motor shop outsourcing servo motors because they don’t have the needed equipment for feedback device repair, or the hydraulic shop outsourcing your proportional valve due to onboard electronics. All of these situations add on to your downtime and final repair bill.
